Reach Workcamp Mission Trip

Reach Workcamp Mission Trip

I spent a week up in New Bloomfield, PA (July 14-20) with my youth group from Matthews United Methodist Church. We were working at a Reach Workcamp with about 300 youth from other churches. We spent the week at West Perry High School. The camp had us divided into about 40 work crews, each assigned to fix up a different house -- replacing boards, repairing walls and ceilings, building decks and porches, caulking, painting, you name it.

I had a blast all week. Here are some pictures from the trip:

Me with one of the eighth graders in our group during a lighter moment.
Here's me supporting the entire front porch while we replace some of the floor boards. This must have been taken after an hour or so, because it looks like I'm straining. ;-)
Me with my work crew, a team of 8 eighth graders, on a bench in the middle of downtown Blain, PA. We stopped for some refreshment after a long day of work.
Me with the work crew in front of a common road sign for that part of Pennsylvania. We passed a few Amish horse-drawn carriages during our daily commute to our work site.
Here's the house we worked on all week. We had to replace floor and ceiling boards on the porch, then paint the porch and trim. Notice how busy everyone is (?).
Here's a good shot of our whole group. The resident and her family are standing in the back, and our Reach Camp troubleshooter is standing to the back and right in the red shirt. That's me in the middle looking goofy as usual.
Me with another group of our kids and a couple from another youth group. The guy with the guitar is a fellow counselor.
Me during one of the nightly camp meetings.
Me and the team found a little time to explore the nearby creek. I believe this shot was taken before we got all wet!
Me and the team also enjoyed the unusual wildlife found in Pennsylvania. Here's me with one of my teammates and a few of the locals. Mooooooo!
Here's me and my team doing what we did best all week: eat lunch!
Some of our painting required a little roof work. Here's three of our team on top.
Me in the Reach Camp office after a tiring work day (thus the cane).
